KONE Machine Room-Less traction elevator Ukrops Grocery Roanoke VA
this is the elevator at the Ukrops Grocery store in Roanoke VA off Franklin Road. One weird (and scary) thing is the fact that no alarm bell is present. there is a phone, but what if it did not work? I was impressed with the speed of the MRL traction device as opposed to hydraulic and not to mention how smooth it was..

How does the elevator move then
how many meters does it require before putting an elevator?
its a little dark.
these look verry similar to the ones in our school (UK), but ours are C5′s. They are also roomless traction elevators and they have a combined call/bell button.
in australia all elevators have an alarm bell built in with the phone button so when you press the phone button you hold it down for 5 seconds and in the time the alarm sounds and then they put you on to the company (in one schindler elevator the button is worn and at the dover/TK at school it only has an alarm no phone
Otis, Schindler, and ThyssenKrupp offer their own MRL offerings. However, ThyssenKrupp has lost reputation with the MRL because of the ISIS incident 2 years ago. That’s why you don’t find very many Synergy MRL elevators as you would find Kone EcoDisc, Otis Gen2, and Schindler 400A
Which is always out of sync and can be worse that a Schindler.
Hydraulics are NOT stupid. They are very reliable and have been a successful solution for over 80 years. I would like you to name one elevator that you have ridden/know that has contaminated the ground.
MRL technology
I personally am not a fan of KONE. I think discontinuing hydraulics was wrong and stupid. I thought KONE hydraulics were actually really cool, but now I lost a lot of respect for them. I also think the EcoSpace designs need modifications.
@suzzex I’m a ThyssenKrupp fan, but I prefer traction over hydraulic because the energy savings traction offers over hydraulic. Kone is successful with their EcoSpace MRL elevator, and that’s why they stopped making hydraulic. We will be getting a few of these on the UNM campus
@eleljep It was 2007 that Kone discontinued hydros
they discontinued them in 2007
ecodisk?
KONE isn’t my favorite brand. I’m ok with them, but I’m not crazy about them. I prefer hydraulic over traction. (Unless it is high-rise)
Actually, hydraulic elevators can be nessesary because they provide a great deal of power. They also have models like the holeless hydraulic and the roped hydraulic that won’t leak oil into the ground/contamintating.
KONE elevator, KONE stopped making hydraulic in 2007 i think.
Actually I thought it was 2007.
LOL. Because its EcoSpace Traction for little buildings. Do we want to ruin the environment with hydraulic oil? And hydraulics are stupid kone discontinued them.
Kone discountinued hydraulics back in 2002 I believe. However some buildings has traction elevators with 3 or more floors. Hopefully Otis, Schindler and Thyssenkrupp will switch to MRL traction in the future.
How come it is traction of there are only 3 floors?
Why is there no alarm bell? If there is at least a working phone, then I do not know if the DH button will set off some sort of an alarm. The phone is just I think is like your standard elevator emergency telephone.
How do you change the ropes? How about the traction motor, or its bearings?
one opens on the front. the rear only opens on the parking level
